Connect to Gtalk, Yahoo messenger on Linux

To connect to Yahoo or Gtalk from Linux you need to install any multiprotocol Instant messaging client like: ‘Kopete’ or ‘Pidgin’

Download them from the above links & install them.

To configure kopete for yahoo/MSN/ICQ/AIM etc:

To configure Pidgin for Yahoo/MSN/ICQ/AIM etc:
Click Accounts >> Add/Edit. On the new Accounts window click Add.
Select the Protocol like Yahoo, Google Talk etc. & fill in other required details.

Your distribution may not be shipped with all required Audio & Video codecs to play most Audio & Video file formats. Linux can start playing almost any multimedia file(s) for you. Just do the following:

Remove AVG’s “Scanned By” Message in Emails

If you’re an AVG user, you’ve probably noticed that at the bottom of your emails, you can see a “Scanned By AVG” message appended to the bottom of your messages.

To stop this message from being attached:

  1. Go into the AVG Control Center.
  2. Double click on “E-Mail” Scanner.
  3. Click “Configure”.
  4. Uncheck “Certify Mail” under both incoming and outgoing mail.

Your email from this point on will no longer show the “Scanned By AVG” message at the bottom.

Simple Search In XP

If you use the Windows XP search function enough, you might dislike the way it’s set up. Windows 2000 had a much simpler search interface that didn’t involve clicking around on menus or having to deal with the little dog avatar.

If you haven’t already, download and install TweakUI . This tool gives you access to all sorts of options for XP that aren’t available by default in the user interface (or are, but have a convoluted way of getting to them).

Once installed, Click on the “Explorer” menu on the left side, and in the “Settings” panel, check the option that says “Use Classic Search in Explorer”. Hit OK and you’re done!

You can either click on the search function on the Start menu, or press the Windows Key+F.

Setting the Minimum Password Length

1.Open RegEdit
2.Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Network
3. Now, choose the Edit/New/Binary value command and call the new value MinPwdLen.

Press Enter twice and Assign it a value equal to your minimum password length.
